After 16 Days of No New Cases, One Frenchman Tests Positive for COVID-19
Cambodia enjoyed a 16-day streak of no new COVID-19 cases that came to an end on Aug. 31, 2020.

Cambodia’s 16-day streak of no new cases of the virus came to an end on Aug. 31 as one 30-year-old Frenchman tested positive upon his return to Cambodia.
PHNOM PENH--The Ministry of Health on Monday (Aug. 31) reported one new case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Cambodia. The same day, another person has made a full recovery and has been discharged from hospital.
According to ministry’s statement, a 30-year-old Frenchman tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from France via Taiwan to Cambodia on Aug. 30. He has since been hospitalized at Khmer-Soviet hospital in Phnom Penh.
The ministry said that there were 81 passengers on the same flight as the Frenchman, including 29 Cambodians, one Chinese man, 11 Taiwanese, 16 Americans, 17 French, one Irishman, one Russian man, and five Canadians. They have all been placed into 14-day quarantine at designated hotels in Phnom Penh.
Meanwhile, one patient—a 28-year-old Chinese man, who traveled from the Philippines to Cambodia on Aug. 9, 2020—has now tested negative for COVID-19 twice and was discharged from Chak Angre Health Center, Phnom Penh this morning.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in Cambodia now stands at 274 as of Aug. 31, with just eight patients still receiving treatment and 266 having made full recoveries.
