PHNOM PENH – A total of 1,076 runners from 47 countries have registered for the 7th International Angkor Ultra Trail on Jan. 27.

Race co-organizer Edouard George, president of Phoenix Voyages, said 341 Cambodians had registered.

He said participants’ countries included Vietnam, France, South Korea, the US and other countries from Europe and Asia but he did not give a breakdown.

The race is divided into categories of 8km, 18km, 32km, 42 km, 64km and 100km.

Thong Khon, the president of National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said the event will promote tourism and is attracting more international visitors.

This was especially the case because the new international airport at Siem Reap meant more direct flights to Cambodia for tourists.

The first Angkor Ultra Trail race recorded 240 people. Last year, 881 people registered.
