PHNOM PENH – Anti-drug authorites have called for an awareness campaign to combat the dangers of drugs, especially during the Khmer New Year holiday from April 14 to 16.

Meas Virith, secretary-general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD), made the request in Mar. 13 letters to key organisations.

Bodies targeted include provincial-capital drug control committees, local authorities and governors, private TV companies, national media outlets, radio stations, and the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia.

They are urged to speed up integration of drug issue messages into their programs, including music videos and films.

These bodies are urged to work with entertainment event organizers. Companies wanting to hold concerts are requested to ask hosts and performers to include an educational message.

The NACD asked also for banners with anti-drugs slogans in all important entrances and exits of the captial and provinces as well as resorts and other leisure places.
