As Many as 2 Million International Tourists Expected in Cambodia in 2022

PHNOM PENH — Cambodia may welcome 1.5 million to 2 million international visitors in 2022, which is well over the previous projections of 1 million tourists, Minister of Tourism Thong Khon said on Sept. 9.



“According to the latest forecast, in 2022, Cambodia is expected to attract from 1.5 million to 2 million international tourists,” he said on the ministry’s Facebook page.  



The latest Tourism Statistics Report shows that, from January to August 2022, a total of 998,272 international tourists visited the country, which is 720 percent more than during the same period in 2021. Among them, 396,591 visitors traveled by air, which was an increase of 595 percent compared to the same period in 2021, and 601,681 people arrived by land and waterways, that is, an 831 percent increase.  



The report also mentioned that, in August 2022, a total of 254,813 international tourists came to the country, representing a jump of 2,680 percent compared to the same period in 2021.



Khon added that visitors came mainly from China, France, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.



Cambodia had expected around 1 million international tourists in 2022 while projections for 2023 were 2 million visitors as the country will host the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and the ASEAN Para Games.
