Baby with Parasitic Twin Saved at Kantha Bopha Hospital

PHNOM PENH -- The Jayavarman VII Hospital (Kantha Bopha IV) has successfully operated on a two-day-old boy born with  four arms, four legs and an anal defect. 



The baby, from Sampov Lun District in Battambang province, was born in a natural method and had stayed at the neonatal intensive care unit, according to the Dr. Beat Richner Facebook Account on Nov. 8. 



The condition is called parasitic twin or conjoined twin. The surgery was carried out by Professor Keo Sokha, Dr. Pon Ladin, and Dr. Ean Sarin, taking in four surgical interventions. 



The first surgery was to remove a pair of arms. The second was to allow the baby to defecate temporarily through a colostomy. 



The third operation was to remove two legs and the last was to remove the pubis bone. 



After all the surgeries, the baby, with the care of the NICU, is healthy and growing normally.



The parents were satisfied with the process of the surgery and took the baby home on Nov. 7. They are to meet the doctor again in three months to close the bowel and fix the anus.
