Ban Water Guns Next Year, Says Hun Sen

Prime Minister Hun Sen says water guns used during the traditional Khmer New Year celebrations are dangerous and wants them banned.

PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Sen says water guns used during the traditional Khmer New Year celebrations are dangerous and wants them banned.

“I saw a British tourist who was shot with a water gun in her eye,” he said.

“Water guns should not be used.  Next year, instead of using water for a water fight, use it for sprinkling instead,” he said at the inauguration of the National Children's Hospital Maternity Building on April 20.

According to video posted on Facebook by the Business Advisor, a tourist from the UK was visiting Cambodia during the first day of the Sangkranta when she was involved in a water gun fight at 2am.

Water from guns hit her right eye after which she could see only the white color.

A doctor checked her eye and gave her some medication. There has been no update on the condition of her eye.
