PHNOM PENH—Nine crocodile carcasses were seen floating upside down on January 20 in the Sangker River, around the Prek Kpop commune in Ek Phnom District.
Battambang Chief of Police Danh Eng Bunchan confirmed the discovery, stating that unknown individuals had transported the carcasses of crocodiles from local crocodile farms to the area and discarded them in the river.
“In our province, some local crocodile farms are upstream,” Bunchan said.

Preliminary examinations indicated that the dead crocodiles did not live in the river.
Bunchan added that the bloated carcasses had been removed to prevent a foul odor. Authorities are now working to identify those responsible for dumping the animals.
“We also have specific measures to address such actions, including educating offenders to prevent them from repeating these behaviors, similar to how we handle cases of trash disposal into waterways," he said.
