Cambodia arrests 4,485 drug-related suspects in Q1

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian authorities have arrested 4,485 drug-related suspects, including 67 foreigners, in 1,868 cases during the first quarter of this year, said an Anti-Drug Police Department's report on Saturday.



Some 52 percent of the suspects were drug traffickers, manufacturers, possessors and transporters, while 48 percent were drug users, the report said.



"A total of 240.8 kg of illicit drugs, 5.7 kg of dry marijuana, and 2,302 marijuana plants were seized from those suspects from January to March 2023," the report said, adding that some 33 kg of chemical substance used for drug manufacturing was also confiscated.



The authorities have also impounded six homemade rifles, 15 pistols, 42 cars, 358 motorbikes, 1,299 telephones and 83 scales, as well as cash, it said.
