Cambodia, China sign military cooperation agreement

China expected to continue assisting and supporting the building and development of Cambodia’s defense sector
PHNOM PENH - Cambodia and China have signed an agreement on cooperation between the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and China’s People’s Liberation Army, the Ministry of National Defense said Monday.
In a statement, the ministry said the agreement was signed in Beijing Sunday by National Defense Minister Tea Banh and Chinese Defense Minister Wei Feng.
The statement said General Wei thanked General Tea Banh for promoting bilateral ties and said that Cambodia and China were iron friends at the highest level.
General Wei, who is also a state councilor, said cooperation between the two armies had borne fruit and were a mechanism to boost bilateral relations.
“China will continue to assist and support the building and development of Cambodia’s defense sector,” the statement said.
General Banh congratulated China on its 70th anniversary and for hosting the Seventh World Military Games.
He also spoke highly of China’s military role in building and developing peace in the region and world.
The statement said General Tea Banh also thanked China for supporting and assisting bilateral relations, exchanges of visits, upgrading training and human resource capacity-building.
He also highlighted regional and international cooperation which had strengthened the two armies.
