Cambodia Donates Covid Vaccines and Equipment to Myanmar

PHNOM PENH – Cambodia is donating a million doses of COVID-19 vaccine and medical equipment to Myanmar.



PM Hun Sen announced the donations on May 26 at a meeting with factory workers at the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.



“Myanmar is lacking vaccines while we have lots of vaccines remaining, so we have to share with our friend,” he said.



The vaccines have been handed by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health Youk Sambath to the representative of Myanmar.



Myanmar official said the country was deeply grateful to the Kingdom of Cambodia for providing a life-saving vaccine to Myanmar.



The donation has shown the unity and collaboration of both countries during this difficult time, showing the truth of friendship.



“It’s a symbol of growing friendship, cooperation, and friendship between the two countries,” said the representative of Myanmar.



This will be the fourth time that Cambodia has sent support to Myanmar. So far, Cambodia has been contributing approximately 8.2 million face masks, $200000, and medical equipment to Myanmar to combat COVID-19.



Cambodia has previously provided covid assistance to other countries such as Timor-Leste, Vietnam, and Laos.

Cambodia has vaccinated 95 percent of its 16 million population against COVID-19, health officials say.
