Cambodia Eyes Bronze Medals in Obstacle Race

PHNOM PENH – Cambodia will fight for bronze medals in the obstacle race individual and all-women relay 100m categories in the SEA Games 2023.

In an initial round on May 4, the host’s all-women team ranked fourth among competing countries Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The Cambodia team members were Yun Daneth, Yin Pisey, Dorn Srors and Touch Sreytoch.

Cambodia will face Malaysia for the bronze while Indonesia will compete against Philippines for gold on May 7.

However, the all-men’s team failed to advance to the next round in the 100m relay and ranked outside the medal zone.

Ol Saoheang, who sits at third position in the 100m with 12 obstacles category, will also compete for the bronze against a Laotian competitor on May 6.

Thin Vicheth, secretary-general of Cambodia Obstacle Sport Federation, said that today’s result was acceptable for the federation since the athletes were all new to the sport.

“We place hope on the individual category to win a medal as the team spirit is not high enough,” he said.

“We expect the athlete for individual category to do better.”

This is the first time that Cambodia has competed in this sport. During the previous event in Vietnam, Philippines swept all gold medals.
