Cambodia Names National Football Team for SEA Games

Supporters now know who will defend Cambodian colors next May in Vietnam 



PHNOM PENH – The Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) has released the names of the 24 players who will play for the national football team in the 2021 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Vietnam, which will be held all over the country from May 12 to May 23.



The U-23 list includes veteran players and several newcomers from Phnom Penh Crown FC, Visakha FC, Boeung Ket FC, Tiffy Army FC, NagaWorld FC, and many other teams in the Cambodian Premier League 1 (CPL 1). 



With five players selected to play for the national football team, Boeung Ket FC, the 2020 CPL 1 champion, has the highest number of players on the list, which included striker Sieng Chanthea.



Chanthea was already part of the national team during the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, when Cambodia reached the semi-finals of the football competition.



Visakha FC, Phnom Penh Crown FC and NagaWorld FC have three players each on the FFC list. 



Goalkeeper Vireak Dara and forwards Sa Ty and Ky Rina are the three Visakha FC players who will represent Cambodia in Vietnam.



On its Facebook page, Visakha FC congratulated the “three of our players who have been called up for the Cambodian U-23 national team for the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam.”



“We would like to wish our players, especially the Cambodian U-23 national team, good luck and success on their mission.” the post said 



NagaWorld FC is represented by defenders Phem Taosinh and Chea Sokmeng and striker Phat Sokha. 



Lim Pisoth, who just recovered from an injury, was among the three Vietnam-bound footballers from Phnom Penh Crown FC, the defending champion in CPL 1.



Initially, the 31st SEA Games were supposed to take place from Nov. 21 to December 2, 2021, but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The biennial regional multi-sports event will also host competitions for more than 40 other sports, such as diving, judo, volleyball, basketball or gymnastics.
