PHNOM PENH-- Cambodia will host the 9th Phnom Penh International Half Marathon next month to celebrate the 83rd birthday of Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, a sports official told Xinhua here on Wednesday.

Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, said the annual race will be held on June 16, with three types of races: a 21-km run, a 10-km race, and a 3-km fun run.

"So far, more than 2,000 professional and amateur athletes, including about 300 foreign runners from 21 countries and regions, have already registered for the event," he said.

Most of foreign runners are Japanese, Indonesians and Chinese, he added.

"The event is also to promote green city and to attract more tourists to our city," Chamroeun said, adding that proceeds from the event will be donated to pediatric hospital Kantha Bopha.
