Cambodia U-23 Team Start Training ahead of AFF U23 Championship

The football competition is set to kick off on Feb. 14 

PHNOM PENH--The Cambodian U23 football team have been training at the Moradok Techo National Stadium in preparation for the upcoming AFF U23 Championship 2022 which Cambodia will host.



This will be the first training on this field for the Cambodian national team since the official inauguration of the stadium in preparation for the Southeast Asian Football Championship.



The Main Bowl of the Moradok Techo National Stadium was completed in late 2021 as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games 2023 in Cambodia. It will also host several popular sports such as football and Athletics.



A total of 74 players from 18 clubs were invited for the first phase following which 36 players progressed to the second phase. The final stage was concluded on Feb. 8, and 28 players were selected to represent Cambodia in the AFF U23 Championship, which is set to kick off on Feb. 14 and end on Feb. 26.



In the second phase of the test, only players from eight clubs were left, including Phnom Penh Crown, Preah Khan Reach, Svay Rieng, Visakha, Boeung Ket Club, Angkor Tiger Club, Royal Cambodian Armed Forces Football Association, Prey Veng Province and Football School Center Bati.



For the AFF U23 Championship 2022, the teams have been divided into three groups: Group A will host Cambodia, East Timor, the Philippines and Brunei. Group B features Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos, while Group C features Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.
