Cambodian Premier League Season 2023-2024: Game On

PHNOM PENH – The Cambodian Premier League kicked off last weekend, marking the opening of the 2023-2024 season with Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng standing in first place in week one.



Ten teams competed in five matches held on Aug. 5 and 6.



On the first day of the championship, Visakha FC won 2-0 against Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC in front of 1,953 spectators, while Prey Veng FC lost 4-5 to Naga World FC with 1,026 people in the audience.



The defending champion Phnom Penh Crown FC beat Boeung Ket FC 2-1 at Phnom Penh’s RSN Stadium, which hosted a public of 5,078.



Tiffy Army FC got defeated 0-2 against Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng at its home in front of 931 spectators, and ISI Dangkor Senchey FC won 1-0 against Angkor Tiger FC at the AIA Stadium with 1,624 viewers on Aug. 6.



As of the first week of the championship, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng stands first in the ranking, followed by Visakha FC, Naga World FC, Phnom Penh Crown FC, and ISI Dangkor Sen Chey.



A total of 17 goals were scored in the five first matches. While foreign players put the ball in the back of the net 13 times, Cambodian players did so on four occasions.



De Olivera Marques Mark of Naga World FC is so far the best goal scorer, defeating the goalkeeper three times. He is followed by Marcus Warren Haber of Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, who marked two goals.



The Blue Saber (the nickname for Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng), will open its stadium to welcome the Red Lion (which refers to Phnom Penh Crown FC) on Aug. 11.



The next day, Naga World will play against the Blue Horse (Visakha FC’s nickname) and ISI Dangkor Senchey FC (also known as the Elephant) will face Prey Veng.



On Aug. 13, the Blue Dragon (nickname for Boeung Ket FC), will play the Siem Reap Tiger (Angkor Tiger FC), and Kiriving Sok Sen Chey FC (aka the Rooster), will play Tiffy Army FC (nicknamed the Hanuman).



Phnom Penh Crown FC was crowned champion in the 2022-2023 season, followed by Visakha FC, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, and Boeung Ket FC.
