PHNOM PENH – The six Cambodian students who were in university exchange in conflict-ridden Sudan’s capital Khartoum are back safe and sound in Cambodia.

Nos Sles, secretary of state at the Ministry of Education said they arrived in Cambodia on April 29.

The students have been evacuated safely by ship across the Red Sea, with the assistance of the Cambodian government which cooperated with Malaysia and Saudi Arabia’s authorities.

Over the last two weeks, Khartoum has been the scene of fierce fighting between two rival forces, the Sudanese Armed Forces led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

Countries have evacuated thousands of their citizens by air or through Sudan’s Red Sea port.
