Cambodia’s International Trade: $14 Billion in 2025 First Quarter

PHNOM PENH — Cambodia’s trade volume totalled $14.44 billion in the first quarter of 2025, which represented an increase of 15.6 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

From January through March 2025, exports jumped 9.8 percent to reach $6.87 billion, while imports went up 21.5 percent, amounting to $7.57 million, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise’s report released on April 10.

During the first three months of 2025, the country exported goods worth $2.4 billion while its imports were $2.58 billion, the report stated.

Garments and textile-made products remained at the top of the list of exported goods, generating more than $1.46 billion from January through March 2025, up by 16.5 percent compared to the 2024 first quarter. These products represented around 21.3 percent of the country’s total exports. 

China topped the list as Cambodia’s biggest export trading partners with over $4 billion of purchased goods, which was an increase of 26.7 percent, followed by the United States with exports of $2.5 billion, which was 22.4 percent more than during the same period in 2024.

Vietnam ranked third as Cambodia’s major export countries with $2.3 billion, up only 0.7 percent, while Thailand still remained fourth with $1.14 billion, up 2.2 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

In the meantime, trade with Japan reached $656 million and with Canada $294 million, representing increases of 29.5 percent and 15 percent respectively.

Trade with Indonesia, the country’s top seventh trading partner, reached $280 million, which was a 10 percent increase, followed by Spain with $264 million representing a 24.4 percent increase. Moreover, trade with Germany showed a 13.3 percent increase, reaching $256 million, and with Malaysia totalled $249 million, which was a 33.5 percent increase.
