PHNOM PENH – The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (CanCham) officially opened its new office at the Connexion Building, Koh Pich, marking a key step in strengthening trade and investment ties between Canada and Cambodia.
The event also served as the official announcement of Canada’s new embassy in Phnom Penh, which quietly opened on March 1st. David Verbiwski, Chargé d’Affaires of the Canadian Embassy, highlighted the importance of this development and announced an upcoming Canadian trade mission in May, bringing over 80 companies to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia.
"Canada’s embassy and trade delegation reflect our long-term commitment to Cambodia’s economic future," Verbiwski stated, adding that the trade mission is part of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy to enhance regional partnerships.
Emily Yu, Chairwoman of CanCham, welcomed guests, emphasizing the chamber’s role in connecting businesses and promoting inclusive growth. “This office strengthens our ability to serve as a platform for businesses of all nationalities to collaborate and expand,” she said.
CanCham’s full leadership team was introduced at the event, including Victor La, Director of Events; David Stevenson, Director of Marketing and Communications; Denis Barre, Secretary-Treasurer; and Yein Ngo, Vice Chairwoman. Discussions highlighted key initiatives, including the Business Digital Transformation Index, designed to help companies measure and improve their digital capabilities.
A major highlight was CanCham’s long-standing partnership with ABA Bank, one of Cambodia’s leading financial institutions. Romny Theam, Chief External Affairs Officer of ABA Bank, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting business growth and innovation. She emphasized ABA’s focus on digital transformation and financial accessibility for enterprises.
Additionally, CanCham announced its partnership with UN Women, making it the first chamber in Cambodia to collaborate on advancing gender equality in business. This initiative aligns with the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), encouraging fair workplace policies and leadership opportunities for women.
With a new office, an upgraded embassy, and a major trade mission ahead, CanCham is set to play a central role in deepening Canada-Cambodia economic ties. Business leaders at the event expressed optimism about new partnerships, expanded investment, and a more inclusive business environment in the Kingdom.
