PHNOM PENH--Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC) on Feb. 9 began a two-day SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games conference to review the results of 2021 and preview the direction for 2022-2023.

The “Cambodia 2023” conference held at Sokha Hotel includes a workshop on good governance for hosting the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games.

The opening ceremony for the ASEAN Para Games is to take place on May 5 next year with the slogan “Sport: Live in Peace.”

The conference was presided over by CAMSOC chairman and Defense Minister Tea Banh with the presence of CAMSOC vice-president and Minister of Tourism Thong Khon and CAMSOC Secretary-General Vath Chamroeun as well representatives from various sectors and other stakeholders.

Commending the efforts of the organizers and the achievements of 2021, irrespective of the obstacles provided by the Covid-19 pandemic, Banh said that all stakeholders should take the highest responsibility for their roles and responsibilities to ensure the events’ success as Cambodia makes history.

"I strongly believe that through this conference and workshop, we will be able to find more important working ideas, which are important inputs and continue to provide the full range of work of the CAMSOC National Committee,” Banh said.

"The goal of 2022 is to be the year of our SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games operation, which requires all stakeholders to be highly realistic and accountable to CAMSOC, to the Royal Government and to the Federation of Southeast Asian Games."

In the meantime, he called on leaders and representatives of ministries, institutions, sports organizations and national sports federations to bring good experiences to change as much as possible to ensure important and relevant skills for the implementation of an effective and successful SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2023.

In the same event, Chamroeun said after day 1 of the conference that the event was important in finalizing mechanisms for good governance in the management of Cambodia 2023.

“At the conference, we evaluated the strengths and weaknesses of the past work and addressed all challenges as we prepare to host the 2023 SEA Games,” Chamroeun said.

He continued that it requires a clear mechanism in order to reach the goal set, which is why the conference is held with a focus on the importance of good governance in the management of the event.

“We have the legal standards and a guidebook, in which we have compiled all the rules, including the code of ethics, regulations, SEA Games hosting rights, as well as the action plan for each commission – all the result of the huge efforts over the past two years,” he continued.
