Customs and Excise Pulls in $500 Million in the First Quarter 

PHNOM PENH – The General Department of Customs and Excise raised more than $500 million in the first quarter of this year but this was down on the same period last year.

Department director-general Kun Nhem said the $564 million collected was 20.5% of the annual figure set by the Draft Law on Financial Management for 2023.

The figure was announced on April 11 at a meeting to review the results of the first quarter of Customs and Excise.

Value-added tax (VAT) contributed 949.8 billion riels, special tax contributed 752.2 billion riels, customs duty contributed 459.5 billion riels, the additional tax on petroleum products contributed 87.6 billion riels, and the export tax and other fees contributed 53.8 billion riels.

Vehicles and machinery accounted for 835.6 billion riels (approximately $20.5 million), mixed goods accounted for 757.2 billion riels ($18.6 million), petroleum products accounted for 553.5 billion riels, and construction materials and other additional taxes accounted for another 156.6 billion riels.

In 2022, the revenue was 10,998.9 billion riels, about $2,690 million, up 18.3% on the same period in 2021.
