Till the very last second of his mandate, it is more than likely that Donald Trump will refute information indicating that he lost the election by deeming it “fake news” as he has, throughout his mandate, dismissed any information that did not suit him.

For four years, any information contrary to his interests was received with an incensed “Fake News.”

Some of his advisors went as far as inventing the concept of “relative truth!” As in: Some things are true for some and not for others. Therefore, truth is relative and one can say whatever one wants.

For four years, Donald Trump will have ruled without bothering with facts, data, scientific opinion, never hesitating to spread rumors and lies, and to pass on falsehoods while rudely insulting his adversaries or those who dared contradict him.

So, for four years, there has been, at the helm of the most powerful democracy in the world, a man with no capacity for democratic debate, behaving like a spoiled brat, crude and proud of it.

And for four years, this character has set an example of dismal governance for world leaders, reducing the democratic debate to anathema and labelling “fake news” any inconsistency or unpleasant information.

Even worse, by casting scorn on the press and journalists, Donald Trump has weakened one of the pillars of democracy to the great delight of conspiracy theorists and other antidemocratics who pollute social media with true “fake news.”

Over the last four years, it is not the United States that Donald Trump has made “great again,” as his slogan went, but the environment for lies and the manipulation of people’s minds.
