PHNOM PENH – The Ministry of Agriculture says it needs drones capable of flying long distances to spy on deforestation and fishing crimes.

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina said the ministry is modernising digital resources to make it easier, faster and more efficient to fight crime and provide services to farmers.

During a digital transformation discussion with a Metfone representative on August 31, he said the ministry needs the long-range drones also for dolphin conservation in Kratie and Stung Treng provinces.

To succeed, the ministry needs the cooperation of the private sector for the drone hardware and training, including agricultural skills, new technologies and English to improve the quality and efficiency of agriculture.

In the new mandate of the 7th, the ministry will focus on development programs, especially agricultural experts, to help farmers across the country, a priority of the government, he added.
