Former Opposition Leader Kem Sokha’s Trial Starts Today

The trial of former opposition leader Kem Sokha, who is charged with treason, begins today at the heavily-guarded Phnom Penh Municipal Court

PHNOM PENH--Former opposition leader Kem Sokha's trial on treason starts today at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.


The sessions are to take place in a courtroom with about 30 seats, which had to be reserved. It is believed that mainly embassy representatives and people close to the government were assigned seats. 


Journalists Wednesday gathered at the courthouse, which is located in front of the Olympic Stadium, to get a glimpse of Kem Sokha who arrived at 7:30 am. The press is not allowed inside the courtroom and will have to follow the trial from outside.
