Prime minister highlights peace dividend

PHNOM PENH--Prime Minister Hun Sen says peace in Cambodia allows people to travel without fear.

“Our country is now improving peacefully,” he said in a Facebook post Thursday.

“There are many roads, bridges and resorts almost nationwide to which domestic and foreign tourists can travel without fear unlike during wartime.”

His remarks followed opposition fears of a crackdown during the Pchum Ben holiday from Friday to Monday.

The dissolved Cambodia National Rescue Party said last Sunday that a bodyguard of former opposition leader Sam Rainsy had been attacked by unknown assailants.

A day earlier, two party activists were arrested and charged with plotting against the government in Ratanakiri Province.

The arrests brought to 28 the number of party activists arrested and placed in pre-trial detention this year.
