PHNOM PENH – India will strengthen cooperation with Cambodia in technical and vocational training, This includes hospitality training to expand the number of skilled workers in tourism.

This decision was announced when Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, met Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of India to Cambodia, on Sept. 22.

Heng Sour said technical and vocational training was crucial in boosting the Cambodian economy,  along with the implementation of the national program vision on technical skills training and vulnerable families under the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I.

Devyani Khobragade agreed to assist in strengthening the capacity of the Cambodian people in the field of technology.

The ambassador of India to Cambodia also agreed with Heng Sour to assist in vocational training on hospitality and food in line with the needs of Indian tourists.

“Due to the shortage of restaurants in Cambodia, this hospitality and food training program will be an indispensable key to attracting Indian tourists,” the Ministry of Labor said.

“India's support is enabling Cambodians to have a significant skill in attracting more Indians to Cambodia, which can go beyond cultural and religious ties between these two nations.”

The confirmation of India's cooperation with Cambodia coincides with the impending launch of direct flights between the nations.

The Ministry of Tourism said on Sept. 22 that Cambodia and India had discussed promoting Indian investment in the tourism sector in Cambodia.

Most notable were an initiative to create religious travel package deals and an agreement to promote direct flights between Phnom Penh and New Delhi via Cambodia Angkor Air.
