Job Hopefuls to Face Drug Tests

PHNOM PENH – All job applicants will have to take drug tests and employers must not accept anyone who fails under proposed laws. 

The rules would apply to all positions in public institutions and private companies, Interior Minster Sar Kheng said. 

Speaking at the inauguration of a new Hun Sen Phnom Sampov High School building in Battambang province on Nov. 2, Sar Kheng said mandatory testing would be included in an amendment to the Law on Drug Control.

He called on Justice Minister Koeut Rith to prepare the amendment.

Amendments should be made also to the Road Traffic Law, mandating three or six monthly testing for drivers for private companies.

Sar Kheng said stricter laws were aimed at combatting drug use and protecting young people.

Koeut Rith couldn't be reached for comment at the press time.

Chin Malin, secretary of state at the justice ministry couldn't be reached for comment at the press time.
