PHNOM PENH – Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital has celebrated International Children’s Day with the re-launch of a month-long campaign to raise funds.

The campaign will run from June 1 to July 30 to support the five Kantha Bopha Hospitals.

The campaign, called “10,000 riel, 10,000 people,” was introduced last year and raised about $300,000.

The organisers hope that donors will continue to support the mission to help children, with the motto “Khmer help Khmer”.

The hospitals care for 85 percent of the nation's sick children.

The hospitals, with a combined capacity of 2,300 beds in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, spend an average of $40 million each year to provide free treatment.

The Kantha Bopha Foundation, which runs the hospitals, was founded by pediatrician  Beat Richner.

Since its inception in 1992, approximately 20 million sick children have received outpatient care. Another 2.3 million have been cared for due to severe illness.
