PHNOM PENH – Cambodia will bring its products to the six-month World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, along with 161 other countries.

Agricultural, handcrafted, industrial, cultural and tourism products are expected to attract sales and investments at the event which starts on April 13.

Commerce Ministry spokesperson Penn Sovicheat said the country received a type B national pavilion of 300 square meters, of which 20 percent is for a commercial area.

The ministry will sign a contract with a company which will present and sell Khmer-made products in the pavilion.

Some products are produced by the company while some others are from other local companies and enterprises.

These include souvenirs, food and beverages, handicraft textiles, house materials, handicraft goods made from local materials, paintings, health goods, jewelry, and artistic works.

Sovicheat said, “Organizing the Cambodian pavilion will present Khmer culture and civilization with the integration of traditional and modern contemporary design.

“The design will show a strong development on all sectors such as the economy, commerce, industry, agriculture, culture, tourism, export diversification, and potential products made by Cambodia, including paddy and milled rice, peppers, cashews and mango jam.”

This would be an opportunity to establish ties in economy, trade and commerce, and direct investments with regional and international partners from Japan and other countries as well as nine international organizations.

It aimed to diversify exports, particularly through free trade agreements and trade agreements that lure direct investments and boost exports.

Sovicheat said the exhibition would push Cambodia into business gatherings and commerce partnering, and strengthen economic and commerce cooperation between Cambodia and the others.

More importantly, the event will get Cambodia “recognized more widely for the long-time history and its richness in cultural heritage and civilization”, and will promote these aspects internationally to attract tourists among around 28.2 million people (3.5 million foreigners) who are expected to join the exhibition.

Sovicheat said Cambodia will build its reputation on the international stage while being a country member of the Bureau International des Expositions — an intergovernmental organization in charge of overseeing and regulating world expos.

Commerce operators and producers would be motivated to produce quality goods with safety and attractive packages in line with standards to enter and compete in international markets.

Cambodia-Japan trade reached around $1.4 billion from January to August, up nearly 17 percent on the same period last year.   Cambodia’s exports were worth $900 million, up 20 percent, while Japan’s reached $480 million, up 11.4 percent.
