PHNOM PENH – Khoy Rida will take over as Governor of Pursat province, replacing Cheav Tay who is having medical treatment, Interior Minister Sar Kheng says.

Tay has not been seen in public in recent months and deputy governor Cheng Lay has been the acting governor.

Kheng wrote to Prime Minister Hun Sen asking Tay to be appointed as Secretary of State for the Ministry of Interior and Rida as Governor of Pursat. Rida is deputy governor of Battambang.

Speaking on Nov.17 after a meeting of the National Coordination Committee on Anti-Money-Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism, Sar Kheng said the PM had approved the request.

Sar Kheng said Tay had not done anything wrong but needed time to recover from his undisclosed illness.

Rida also served as deputy governor of Pursat province before moving to the same position in Battambang in March. At that time, he replaced Yim Sieb, who was transferred to be Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior.
