King and Queen Mother Head to China for Medical Check-up

Embarking on their second trip of the year, King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk left for China this morning.



PHNOM PENH--King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk on Tuesday (Oct. 6) left for China for their regular medical check-ups, the second time for this year.



The plane carrying Cambodian royalty left Phnom Penh International Airport earlier this morning. Prime Minister Hun Sen, President of the National Assembly Heng Samrin, Senate President Say Chhum and other senior officials were present to see the King and Queen Mother off. 



In his letter to the nation dated Oct. 5, the King said that he and the Queen Mother will be in China from Oct. 6 onward. During his absence, Chhum, as president of the Senate, will serve as acting head of state, the King said.



In April 2020, the King and Queen Mother also underwent routine check-ups in the Chinese capital of Beijing.
