PHNOM PENH-- King Norodom Sihamoni has written to Chinese President Xi Jinping to express the royal family, the Cambodian government and people’s congratulations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, which was celebrated Tuesday in Beijing.

"The Kingdom of Cambodia will always stand side by side with the People's Republic of China and steadfastly adheres to a one-China policy," he stated in the letter, referring to Beijing’s position that Taiwan is part of China.

Dated Sept. 23, the letter also mentioned China’s global-trade Belt and Road Initiative, describing this as a praiseworthy strategy of jointly building a community with a shared future for mankind.

King Sihamoni is currently in China undergoing a medical checkup. On Monday night, the king and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk attended a reception at the Great Hall of the People, which was held in Beijing on the eve of the 70th anniversary celebrations.
