PHNOM PENH – Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone will visit Cambodia this week for two days, aiming to strengthen the close relationship and cooperation between the two countries.

The visit, scheduled for December 4 and 5, comes at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced.

Hun Manet will welcome Sonexay with an official ceremony in Phnom Penh before the two leaders hold talks. They plan to discuss ways to deepen their countries' partnership, focusing on friendship, mutual benefits, and long-term collaboration.

The ministry added that the two prime ministers will also exchange views on regional and global issues and oversee the signing of several agreements aimed at boosting cooperation.

The visit highlights the strong ties between the two nations and their commitment to working together on shared priorities.

Sonexay hosted Manet in October during the latter’s visit to Vientiane.

During his visit, Sonexay is scheduled to have an audience with King Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Palace. He will also hold separate courtesy meetings with Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly.

The statement highlighted that the official visit aims to strengthen the traditional bonds of friendship and enhance cooperation across various fields between the two nations.

Cambodia and Laos have enjoyed a close relationship since establishing diplomatic ties in 1956, building on centuries of historical connections.

High-level visits between the two countries' leaders occur regularly. This year, Hun Manet visited Laos twice, once in March and again in October. In April, Laos President Thongloun Sisoulith made a state visit to Cambodia, during which he presented two elephants as a gift to King Sihamoni.
