PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet talked by phone with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, congratulating him over a landslide general election victory last week.

PM Wong led the ruling People Action Party (PAP) to victory in the May 3 election, winning 87 out of 97 seats and extending the party’s mandate since independence.

“The increase in the number of seats in Parliament, as well as the votes supporting the ruling PAP party, clearly demonstrates the high confidence of the Singaporean people in the leadership of the Prime Minister,” Hun Manet said in a Facebook post on May 7.

Hun Manet recalled his official visit to Singapore in June 2024 after Wong become Singapore’s fourth PM. He and Wong had many discussions aimed at strengthening relations between the countries and peoples.

As this year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries, Hun Manet said he and his counterpart will have the chance to enhance cooperation in all fields for the benefit of both countries and peoples.”

“I look forward to welcoming you to an official visit to Cambodia in the future,” he said.

Cambodia was among the first countries to recognize Singapore independence in 1965.
