PHNOM PENH -- The British woman who went missing about one week ago in Koh Rong Sanloem island in Cambodia has been found dead, a provincial police chief said Thursday.

General Chuon Narin, the police chief of the coastal Preah Sihanouk province in southwestern Cambodia, said that police discovered the body of Amelia Bambridge at Koh Chlam island, Kok Kong province. The discovery was made around noon on Thursday.

Koh Chlam island is about 100 kilometers from Koh Rong Sanloem where Bambrdige, 21, was last seen.

Chuon Narin declined to give further details about the circumstances surrounding her death and why her body ended up so far away from where she was reporting missing.

“We cannot give any confirmation about this case yet as we need to conduct a forensic investigation on her body first,” he said.
