PHNOM PENH – More Chinese movies are expected to be filmed in Cambodia, while Cambodian movies are also hoped to be broadcasted in China. This aims to strengthen cultural exchange and people-to-people connection between the countries.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the president of China Media Group (CMG), expressed his hope for the exchange on April 17 during his speech at the launch of “Classical Quotes by Xi Jinping” program.

Under the title of ironclad friendship, Cambodia-China relationship has been deepened in the past years. Haixiong noted that the people have gotten closer through the help in infrastructures, trades, tourism, and popularity of Chinese dramas amongst the Cambodians.

“I’ve heard that the Cambodian people love Chinese dramas. I hope there will be more Chinese movies to be filmed in Cambodia and Cambodian films to be screened in China,” Haixiong said.

“This will connect both cultures and people of the two countries closer.”

The statement enlightened a positive direction for Cambodia to be a film destination, which aligns with the Cambodian government’s intention to promote the country for national and international film and commercial contents.

Those contents will boost the promotion of the country internationally in a fast and efficient manners, said Prime Minister Hun Manet in February.
