KAMPOT – Located at the heart of a province that is considered the next tourist hotspot in the country, Mount Bokor, also known as the Preah Monivong Bokor National Park, has caught the attention of local and foreign investors.

Rich in natural resources, the Bokor has already seen different stages of development. It was first seen as a retreat hill station during the French colonial period in the early 20th century, before being turned into a luxurious casino place for the Cambodian political and economic elite during the Sangkum period. Since the beginning of the 21st century, it has seen new developments of both tourist attractions and homes.

Say Sophertra, Sokha Hotels & Resorts Group’s deputy director of Sales & Marketing, spoke to Cambodianess about the ongoing and future developments of the hospitality sector in Mount Bokor, unveiling plans for the abandoned historical buildings and how to tackle climate change.

The group already runs two hotels on top of the hill: The Bokor Palace, which was inaugurated during the colonial era, and the Thansur Sokha Hotel, which opened in the early 2000s.
