PHNOM PENH— Get ready for an incredible fusion of culture, sports, and eco-consciousness. For the first time ever, the Bon Phnom (mountain festival) is coming to Kirirom National Park in Kampong Speu province on February 15-16. This free festival promises an unforgettable experience, blending plastic-free tourism with the rich tapestry of Cambodian arts, culture, and sports.
Under the theme “Together to Promote Tourism and Preserve Cambodia’s Natural Environment and Culture,” Bon Phnom is a joint effort between the Tor Festival volunteer group and the Kampong Speu provincial administration.
Theam Pichvisal, director of the Tor Festival and the Bon Phnom volunteer group, explained that the festival's heart lies in educating younger generations about Khmer traditional ceremonies, art performances, music, and cultural heritage.
“To create a lively and engaging atmosphere for participants, concerts and contemporary music will also be performed along the breathtaking backdrop of nature,” said Pichvisal.
Beyond the cultural immersion, Bon Phnom champions physical and mental well-being with a diverse range of sports activities. Attendees can dive into volleyball, petanque, a half-marathon, big motorbike adventure riding, and traditional Khmer games.
Photographers can also capture the stunning beauty of Kirirom National Park through photos or short films and enter the competition, contributing to the promotion of Cambodia’s natural wonders.
And what's a festival without delicious food? A food camp showcasing Khmer cuisine, desserts, and traditional cakes will also be on-site.
“The festival will attract both locals and foreign tourists to Kirirom National Park, contributing to promote our national attraction,” said Pichvisal cheerfully.
