PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet has approved the official employment status of 11 contract teachers at the remote Boeung Chungruk Techo Win-Win Primary School in Banteay Meanchey province.
The decision was made on Nov. 29, during the inauguration of achievements in the Boeung Chungruk Techo Win-Win zone in Tuol Pongro commune.
“I agreed to grant your request to become officials as a recognition of your efforts and dedication to the school,” Hun Manet said. “Teachers should remain committed to sharing the knowledge with students for further development.”
The school has 428 students and 12 teachers, of whom only one held official status.
The PM agreed also to construct a two-story building with 12 classrooms at the remote school.
To become an official primary teacher, high school graduates must complete a two-year teacher training program under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
Candidates must then pass the civil service examination to receive their official status.
Previously, Boeung Chungruk Techo Win-Win zone was an insecure area due to war and the presence of unexploded landmines.
