PM Hails Cambodia’s Olympic Spirit, Congratulates France

PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Manet praised Cambodia’s athletes for their representation at the Paris 2024 Olympics, despite not winning any medals. He also extended congratulations to France for successfully hosting the games.

The 33rd Summer Olympics concluded on August 11 with France passing the Olympic torch to Los Angeles.

Cambodia’s three-strong Olympic team, representing the nation in swimming and running, bravely competed at the Paris Games but returned home without a medal.

Prime Minister Hun Manet commended the team and delegation for their role in representing Cambodia on the international stage. He said their participation brought pride to the Khmer nation.

The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the host country. “On behalf of the government and the people of Cambodia, [I] congratulate France and the French people for successfully hosting the Summer Olympics,” he said.

Hun Manet said that the games offered Cambodian athletes valuable opportunities to compete internationally while enjoying safe accommodations and travel arrangements.

He expressed immense pride in the achievement of Cambodian artist and rapper Mann Vanda, who graced the closing ceremony with a performance that showcased the beauty of Cambodian culture to a global audience.

Vanda's rendition of “Time to Rise” captivated the packed Stade de France on the outskirts of Paris.

In the overall medal tally, the U.S. claimed the top spot with 126 medals, followed by China with 91.
