PHNOM PENH – Thousands of ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) members were due to gather this weekend with the party’s strategy for the upcoming election high on the agenda.

“We will set out a plan which will be implemented as of now until Election Day on July, 23,” government spokesperson Sok Eysan said.

Other agenda items include the report of the achievements of the party’s political programs for 2018 to 2023 and presenting the report on the development of Cambodia for the next five years.

Between 3,000 and 4,000 members and party representatives from across the country will attend the extraordinary general meeting on Jan. 28 and 29, which will be attended by Prime Minister Hun Sen and senior officials.

As party president, the PM will provide guidelines for members, who will get a chance to comment.

All traffic will be stopped from the Chul Phal traffic lights on Preah Norodom Boulevard to Kbal Thnal Skybridge and around the party’s central committee cabinet premises from 7am to 5pm for the two days.

The aim was to ensure safety, security and order and avoid traffic congestion, the party said.
