PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Dec. 10 that the Ministry of Tourism and the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration should look into setting up a museum on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand.

Coastal tourism is one of the four pillars of the Roadmap for Recovery of Cambodia Tourism that was devised during the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermaths, and finalized in 2021, the prime minister said. The other pillars are the country’s cultural heritage, eco-tourism, and Cambodia’s essence and identity, the prime minister said.

Hun Sen made these remarks in his opening address at the 16th World Congress of The Most Beautiful Bays in The World (World-Bays Club) with the club President Michel Bujold and club Co-Founder Bruno Bodard in attendance.

During his speech, the prime minister asked Bujold and the club members to share their experience and process of establishing their museum La Maison de la Baie (bay discovery center) in France.

Hun Sen said he hopes that the Ministry of Tourism will work in cooperation with the club members to conduct a study and set up a coastal tourism observatory as part of the government’s strategy to develop the tourism sector in the country’s coastal areas.

After welcoming the club board meeting to be held in Cambodia next year or later on, the prime minister asked the club’s executive committee and all members to support Cambodia to be a board member for the term 2023-2025.

Cambodian bays received the nickname of the Rising Star of the Southwest during the club’s 7th World Congress in 2011 in Senegal in West Africa.
