PHNOM PENH – Deputy prosecutor Plong Sophal has asked a court to issue a warrant for the re-arrest of former CNRP president Kem Sokha.

Sophal sought the arrest at the end of closing arguments in the treason trial on Dec 21. He also asked the Trial Chamber to impose additional sentences on Kem Sokha.

However, the court gave each party a chance to defend itself and present its own arguments.

Government lawyers and prosecutors have submitted an 86-page document with their conclusions and closing arguments. Kem Sokha's lawyer wrote a 53-page conclusion.

Government lawyer Ky Tech said a separate lawsuit against Kem Sokhathat sought damages for the cost of public order.

The hearing was due to continue until the evening.

In October, the court decided to end the cross-examination of Kem Sokha's case. The trial has taken more than 60 hearings over more than five years.
