Rice Exports Make Over $1 Billion on Seven-Month Figure

PHNOM PENH – Cambodia exported nearly 380,000 tonnes of milled rice and over 2.7 million tonnes of paddy rice in the first seven months of this year, generating more than $1 billion.

The Cambodia Rice Federation said on Aug. 12 that paddy rice earned $784. Milled rice was exported to 64 countries, making around $280 million.

European countries are the major markets for milled rice, importing more than 186,377 tonnes, worth nearly $145 million, followed by China and the autonomous regions with $48 million from the importation of 77,204 tonnes. 

As many as 77,933 tonnes were exported to seven ASEAN countries, generating $53 million, while 38,000 tonnes were to the middle east countries, making $33 million.

Fragrant rice was around 70 percent of the types of exported rice, with long-grain white rice 24 percent, parboiled rice for three percent, organic rice 1.74 percent, and other rice 0.28 percent.
