SEA Games: Cambodian Kickboxers Win One Gold and Three Silver Medals

Touch Rachhan wins the first gold medal in kickboxing, becoming the first Cambodian athlete to earn it from the regional sports tournaments after a victory against Thai opponent Sivapan Arunno in the 57 kg category in the final round. 

Cambodia so far obtained one gold, three silver and four bronze medals 

PHNOM PENH–Cambodia kickboxing athletes May 13 earned one gold and three silver medals during the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Vietnam. 

Touch Rachhan won the first gold medal in kickboxing, becoming the first Cambodian athlete to earn it from the regional sports tournaments after a victory against Thai opponent Sivapan Arunno in the 57 kg category in the final round. 

Rachhan won three rounds with 2-0 in the first round, 2-1 in the second round and 3-0 in the third round.

Kan Meng Hong was defeated by a Thai athlete Chawat Sungnoi in the 54 kg category in the final round with 3-0 result. The Cambodian athlete hardly attacked him because his opponent was good at defending and attacking skills. In the first round, Cambodians lost 2-1, the second round 3-0 and the third round 3-0.

In the same arena, Vietnamese athlete Nguyen The Huong won a gold medal after defeating Lorn Panha in the final round of the 67 kg category, by 3-0. Panha lost to his Vietnamese opponent in the first round with 2-1, the second round with 3-0 and the third round with 3-0. 

Thongchai Thapphli, Thai athlete won over Chhoeung Lvay in the final round in the 71 kg category. The Thai athlete won three rounds with 2-1 in each round. 

Kickboxing is a form of boxing based on kicking and punching. It is practised for self-defence, general fitness and for competition.

On May 13, Cambodian athletes won two bronze medals from Petanque. Sok Chanmean won the bronze medal in the male Petanque category, and Uk Sreymom won in the female Petanque. Cambodia so far has won one gold, three silver and four bronze medals at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam.
