PHNOM PENH — Siem Reap has been named one of the 2025 best destinations by Tripadvisor while Phnom Penh was included in its Trending Destination category.
Siem Reap ranks 14th on its Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best list where Angkor Wat is described as one of the largest religious complexes in the world and, along with the 12th century Angkor Thom royal city, the main reason to visit Siem Reap.
“Get a lesson in national history at the Cambodian Cultural Village, and a lesson in bargaining at the Angkor Night Market, a bonanza of shopping stalls, food vendors, and bars,” Tripadvisor writes on its platform.
The city of London in Great Britain ranks first on the list, followed by Indonesia’s island Bali and the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
According to Tripadvisor, which is a U.S. company that operates online travel agencies and comparison-shopping websites, the Best of the Best list celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel and is awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions over a 12-month period. Out of our 8 million listings, fewer than 1 percent achieve this milestone, Tripadvisor states.
Siem Reap also ranks 10th on Tripadvisor’s list of Culture Destinations, which celebrate the destinations with vibrant arts scenes and rich heritage that are inspiring travelers throughout the world, Tripadvisor writes.
Phnom Penh ranks 17th in its Trending Destinations category with a description stating that “budget-minded travelers will appreciate Phnom Penh’s reasonably priced hotel rooms.”
Tourists can also explore “the city’s temples, palaces, and the remnants of its French colonial history,” Tripadvisor says at its site. “Just outside the city, the The Killing Fields (Choeung Ek) are a reminder of Cambodia's tragic past—a somber contrast to the booming city of today.”
In 2024, a total of 6.7 million foreign visitors came to Cambodia, the five countries of origin of most visitors being Thailand, Vietnam, China, Laos and the United States. Siem Reap welcomed 1 million foreign tourists during the same period.
