Six Cambodian Footballers Test Positive for COVID-19

After their victory of Guam, six of the Cambodian national football team have since tested positive for COVID-19 and are being treated in Bahrain



PHNOM PENH--Six of Cambodia's national football team tested positive for COVID-19 during the AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers playoff.



Coach assistants Phea Sopheaktra and Chhouk Piseth confirmed that Kouch Sokumpheak, Soeuy Visal, Chan Vathanaka, Ena Pisey, Sareth Kriya and Keo Soksela have all contracted COVID-19, but added that none have been hospitalized so far.



Piseth said that all affected players have a mild case of COVID-19 and are currently being treated in their hotel in Bahrain where they will stay until they recover.



The other team members have to continue their journey back to Cambodia, while the U23 team has to travel to Japan for AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers, Piseth added.



This comes after the Cambodian national football team beat Guam 3-1 in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers, earning praise from Prime Minister Hun Sen.



Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health reported 268 COVID-19 cases through PCR testing including 24 imported cases and another 25 deaths.
