PHNOM PENH – Prime Minister Hun Sen has encouraged hotels to use farmers’ markets to promote local products and tourism.

He told hotel owners to support local products by working closely with farmers' produce suppliers.

“We used to talk about the green belt. We want to use the opportunity of cities with a lot of tourists to use domestic products to supply hotels and restaurants,” he said during the 11th National Clean City Day 2023 on Feb. 27.

“We consider tourism as a market for farmers.”

He also encouraged all relevant sectors to strive to enable farmers to supply domestic markets in addition to overseas markets.

Tourism development was important to boost Cambodia's tourism, he said.

The industry needed to be enhanced in all sectors. Handicrafts, creative industries and domestic production were crucial to promoting cultural tourism and ecotourism through the city tourism integration development plan.

The 11th National Clean City Day 2023 was marked with the theme “Clean City, Good Hospitality, the host Cambodia provides warmth”.

He advised authorities to develop links to smart cities that are competitive and attractive to tourists. This included urbanization, science, tourism, environment, economy and society.

Cambodia is expected to attract about four million foreign tourists this year.
