PHNOM PENH —A French-speaking Employment Center has been opened at the National University of Battambang to encourage students to study this language and help French-speaking students find jobs at workplaces requiring French-speaking staff.

The agreement was signed on March 10 by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF)—an international association of more than 1,000 universities and research centers using the French language—that was represented by AUF President Slim Khalbous and the National University of Battambang represented by its rector Sok Khorn. The signing ceremony took place at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia in Phnom Penh.

During the ceremony, Sok Khorn said that all students in Cambodia have the opportunity to take part in exchange programs at French-language institutions abroad and return with quality training enabling them to get employed after graduation. “I hope the French language will remain forever important in Cambodia’s education,” he said. Slim Khalbous of AUF added that he hopes to see Cambodia's presence and role continue to grow in this university association, which includes members of around 90 countries.
