PHNOM PENH – Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta arrived in Phnom Penh on Oct. 19, starting a three-day state visit to Cambodia.

The visit came at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

Ramos-Horta will be received by the King at the Royal Palace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said.

He will hold talk with Prime Minister Hun Sen and pay a courtesy call on the President of the Senate Say Chhum and the President of the National Assembly Heng Samrin.

During his stay, he will meet the Deputy Commander in Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, Hun Manet.

Two bilateral documents are to be signed in the areas of air services and rice trade.

With the departure of the Portuguese in 1975 and the fear of engulfment from Indonesia, Timor-Leste soon proclaimed itself an independent state.

After a referendum, the country gained its independence in May 2002. In that same year, the country received its UN membership and established diplomatic relations with Cambodia.
