SIEM REAP – A fully-functioning mobile computer lab is what rural schools are looking for. Flexibly set between main study hours, the mobile digital school of PeopleStories Charity has gained much attention from local educators and students especially in Siem Reap province’s Prasat Bakong district.
Watch the interview on YouTube below:
Easier to handle than the rigid computer lab with desktops, this digital school uses laptops stored in metal containers and transported on a tuk-tuk.
Program manager Nam Tola says the school can rotate flexibly between villages while the computer can be rotated between students.
Digital courses are added to supplement the main hours. These include English language, critical thinking exercises and basic computer applications. After each session, learning results are digitally collected and evaluated by educators.
This program is a part of PeopleStories, a charity founded by Victoria Miloschewsky, a former working-class Hong Konger who was educated in Australia.
She and her team have provided opportunities for those, particularly in rural Cambodia, wishing to pursue higher education.
Prum Solorn, a member of Rolous Secondary School’s steering committee, told Cambodianess that this is a good opportunity for her students to learn about computer skills.
“This is what we are lacking in our school right now,” she said. “More than just a computer class that teaches skills, it also acts as an encouragement for other students and parents to pay attention to this kind of education.”
